SPANISH FORK CANYON — Two people were taken to the hospital Monday evening after a dump truck hit a minivan on U.S. 6.
The crash happened about 5:30 p.m. near mile marker 193 in Spanish Fork Canyon, Utah Highway Patrol said.
A dump truck pulling a flatbed trailer with a front-end loader was driving west when it drifted off the right shoulder, according to police.
When the driver of the truck tried to swerve back, the trailer “caught the lip of the asphalt and rolled over, coming to rest on the north side of the roadway,” Utah Highway Patrol said in a statement. “This caused the dump truck to whip across both lanes, off the south side of the roadway, and onto the railroad tracks.”
A minivan driving east was hit by either the truck or the loader, police said, causing it to go off the south side of the road and land upside down.
The two people in the minivan were taken to a hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening, UHP Sgt. Nick Street said. The dump truck driver received minor cuts and scratches.
