SALT LAKE CITY — Southwest Airlines announced Monday that it will ax a number of nonstop flights to some of the United States’ largest cities, including Los Angeles, Boston, Orlando and Dallas, according to the Dallas News.

Southwest will specifically drop its 20 nonstop flights beginning in January, allowing planes to help with Hawaii routes that the company recently added to the lineup.

“Airlines routinely eliminate flights with weaker-than-expected performance, but don’t trumpet the cutbacks like they do new flights,” according to USA Today.

The full list of dropped flights include:

  • Los Angeles-Cancun, Mexico
  • Los Angeles-Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
  • Los Angeles-Omaha, Nebraska
  • Los Angeles-Pittsburgh
  • Boston-Atlanta
  • Boston-Kansas City, Missouri
  • Boston-Milwaukee
  • Dallas Love Field-Oklahoma City
  • Dallas Love Field-Jacksonville, Florida
  • Dallas Love Field-San Francisco
  • Orlando, Florida-Oakland, California
  • Orlando-San Jose, California
  • Orlando-Sacramento, California
  • Fort Lauderdale, Florida-Jacksonville, Florida
  • New York LaGuardia-Orlando, Florida
  • Columbus, Ohio-Oakland, California
  • Austin, Texas-San Francisco

All of those flights will end beginning Jan. 6, 2020.

“Whether Southwest announces new service with their quirky flight attendants is yet to be announced. Nor has Southwest mentioned any specific routes that could receive service upgrades with additional aircraft,” according to Simple Flying.

Southwest Airlines announced back in July that it would cancel all flights using the controversial Boeing 737 Max and that it’s leaving Newark, which I wrote about for the Deseret News.
