SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Environmental Quality is offering homeowners grants to convert wood-burning stoves and fireplaces to cleaner burning natural gas or electric. Online registration begins Tuesday, Sept. 3 at stoves.utah.gov.

The 2019 Utah Legislature provided $9 million to continue the popular program as a way to help improve Utah’s air.

Homeowners can receive up to $4,000 to pay for the conversion, depending on their income level. The program, which does not apply to rental and commercial properties, is limited to one award per household.
