After an emotional farewell in “Avengers: Endgame,” could Robert Downey Jr. be making a comeback to the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
In a report published by Fox News, sources have claimed the Iron Man actor may be returning in a new capacity, in a show for Disney’s upcoming streaming service, Disney Plus.
The report, which has been generating buzz online from hopeful fans, goes back to We Got This Covered, which claims that sources have revealed that Marvel is in talks to produce a new series based on “Ironheart.” In the comics, Ironheart is teenage genius Riri Williams, who carries on Iron Man’s legacy.
According to these sources, Downey Jr. will return in a voiceover role, voicing the A.I. that trains Ironheart to follow in Iron Man’s footsteps. The role would be similar to that played by Paul Bettany as Jarvis in earlier Marvel movies.
Downey Jr. has reportedly expressed support previously for incorporating Ironheart into the Marvel universe.
Marvel already has a number of new series in development with Disney for their new streaming service, Disney Plus, including “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” “Wandavision,” and “Loki.” Many of the new series will expand on existing characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Disney Plus is set to launch Nov. 12.
