Samantha Paisley competes during the ski mountaineering women’s sprint quarterfinal during the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Monday. Paisley, who is junior at Rowland Hall in Salt Lake City, was cheered on by her classmates during a viewing party at the school. Paisley is one of five members of the 2020 U.S. Youth Olympic Team hailing from Utah, and one of only two U.S. girls competing in ski mountaineering, a sport currently being considered for the 2026 Winter Olympics. “This event is a great opportunity to cheer on one of our own — a member of Team USA, representing our school and the state of Utah in a global arena,” Bernard Geoxavier, assistant principal of the upper school, said in a statement.
