Over the past few weeks, the concept of sports leagues in the United States going to isolated ‘bubble’ sites to play their seasons has gained attention. The NBA is reportedly eyeing such a setup in Las Vegas and Orlando, and Major League soccer is reportedly eyeing Orlando as well.

On Saturday, The Washington Post’s Steven Goff reported that the “greater Salt Lake City” area could be such a location for the National Women’s Soccer League. Goff reported that the entire season wouldn’t be played in Utah, but a one-month tournament sometime in the summer.

According to Goff, it’s unclear if all the owners of the nine teams in the league are on board with the idea. He reported that sponsors would help with expenses, as there would be “few if any fans allowed,” with live streams and TV being the methods for watching games.

Utah Royals FC plays its games at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, about 25 minutes outside of downtown Salt Lake City. The club is considered one of the bigger markets in the league behind Portland, and Utah has begun easing restrictions on small gatherings that could make such an event work sooner than many other states.
