When he returns home from a Latter-Day Saint mission in Brazil, former Sky View High standout Mason Falslev won’t be headed to the University of Utah to play for the Runnin’ Utes like he once planned.
Instead, he’ll stay home in Cache Valley and play for Utah State.
The Aggies announced Tuesday that Falslev, a three-star recruit in the class of 2020-21, has signed with Utah State and will join the program for the 2022-23 season.
“We’re really excited to add Mason to our roster and bring him back home,” Utah State head coach Ryan Odom said in a statement. “He’s a dynamic player that’s very athletic and is a winner both in basketball and football. He comes from a great family and we’re looking forward to having him be an Aggie.”
A 6-foot-4 guard, Falslev committed to Utah in the summer of 2018 and then signed a letter of intent with the Utes in November 2019, joining Ian Martinez, Caleb Lohner and Pelle Larsson as part of a highly touted recruiting class, ranked No. 9 in the country.
Martinez, Lohner and Larsson have all since transferred from Utah.
Falslev starred at Sky View High School in Smithfield, playing both basketball and football. He was an integral part of multiple 4A state championship teams, earned back-to-back 4A state MVP honors in basketball and finished his high school career as Sky View’s all-time leading scorer (1,930 points).
As a senior, Falslev averaged 20.1 points, 8.4 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game.
