The Cougars got off to a poor start to the second half when Kedon Slovis threw a pick-6 three plays into the third quarter and from there, BYU was playing from behind.
That gave Kansas the breathing room it needed, as the Jayhawks relied on star quarterback Jalon Daniels (130 passing yards and three touchdowns, with 54 rushing yards) and a dominant running game (221 yards, 172 after halftime) to put BYU away in the Big 12 opener for both programs.

Kedon Slovis continued to sling the ball, giving BYU the opportunity to stay in it despite a dismal rushing game for the Cougars.

The Cougars drive was sparked by a 50-yard catch by Chase Roberts, though it short-circuited after Kedon Slovis took a 14-yard sack on second-and-goal.
14:41 — Kansas scored its second defensive touchdown of the day when Kenny Logan Jr. intercepted Kedon Slovis and returned it 30 yards for the score on the third snap of the second half. Kansas 21, BYU 17.
Slovis, who was nearly picked on the first half of the half, threw behind Isaac Rex on third down, the ball was tipped and Logan came up with the interception before running in for the score.

BYU has settled in after another slow start and used a methodical march down the field to tack on a field goal and take the lead into halftime.
Kedon Slovis had his best half as a Cougar, completing 19 of 27 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns, with Isaac Rex (five catches, 57 yards) his favorite target.
The BYU defense stepped up after giving up two early Kansas touchdown drives and held the Jayhawks to back-to-back punts in the second quarter, with Kansas totaling minus-11 yards on those two drives.

0:15 — BYU took its first lead of the game just before halftime, moving the ball 68 yards and taking four minutes off clock before Will Ferrin nailed a 33-yard field goal. BYU 17, Kansas 14.
The Cougars converted a fourth-and-2 with a 16-yard pass to Isaac Rex to keep the drive alive and score four plays later.

BYU appeared to have a turnover earlier in the drive, but Kamden Garrett was flagged for holding on a play where he intercepted Kansas star quarterback Jalon Daniels. Five plays later, the Jayhawks scored.
