- Elon Musk remains the richest man in America, according to the latest Forbes 400.
- Two Utahns made the list of wealthiest people in the United States.
- Matthew Prince and Gail Miller have estimated net worths exceeding $4.8 billion.
It’s no surprise that Elon Musk topped the Forbes 400 list of richest people in America.
Musk, who cofounded seven companies including electric car maker Tesla, rocket producer SpaceX and artificial intelligence startup xAI, has an estimated net worth of $428 billion, according to the annual ranking released Tuesday.
In 2022, Musk bought Twitter in a $44 billion deal and rebranded it as X.
Forbes noted that the wealthiest people in the country have never been wealthier.
“Tariffs. Inflation. Slowing employment. None of it has hit the fortunes of America’s billionaires. The 400 richest people in the U.S. are worth a record $6.6 trillion after getting $1.2 trillion richer over the past year amid surging stock markets and AI mania,” per Forbes.
“A decade ago, when it took $1.7 billion to make The Forbes 400, a net worth of $3.8 billion was comfortably within the top half of the ranking — now that lofty sum is the minimum required. Still, 14 newcomers, including four worth $10 billion or more, have muscled their way into America’s most elite club."
The remainder of the top five are no surprise either, but their net worth doesn’t come close to Musk’s:
- Larry Ellison, chairman, chief technology officer and cofounder of Oracle, $276 billion
- Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder, $253 billion
- Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, $241 billion
- Larry Page, Google co-founder, board member and controlling shareholder, $179 billion
Forbes’ estimates are based on a snapshot of the person’s net worth as of Sept. 1, 2025.
Who are the richest people in Utah?
Two Utahns made the Forbes 400
Matthew Prince, 50, is the co-founder, executive chairman and CEO of Cloudflare, a web infrastructure and security company, and the richest man in Utah. The longtime Park City resident checked in at No. 231 with an estimated net worth of $6.4 billion.

On Tuesday, Prince and his wife Tatiana were recognized among the individuals and foundations donating $20 million to Utah’s 2034 Winter Games. He also heads a new Technology and Innovation Committee for Utah’s Olympics.
Last month, Prince, who recently acquired the holdings at the base of Park City Mountain’s Town Lift, publicly signaled his interest to buy the ski area from Vail Resorts, according to the Park Record. Vail has stated that Park City Mountain is not for sale.
Coming in at No. 319 among the Forbes 400 is Gail Miller and family with an estimated net worth of $4.8 billion. Miller, 81, is the cofounder of the Larry H. Miller Company.
The Miller family owned the Utah Jazz and a vast auto dealership network before selling them in the past few years. The Miller Company owns the Salt Lake Bees Triple A baseball team, Megaplex theaters, health care providers and real estate, including Daybreak. In April, it bought the Real Salt Lake and Utah Royals FC soccer teams for $600 million.
The company also is heading up Big League Utah, a coalition of prominent Utahns seeking to bring Major League Baseball to Salt Lake City. It has plans for a big league stadium as part of a mixed-use development the company is building on the city’s west side.
The Larry H. and Gail Miller Family Foundation also donated $20 million to Utah’s 2034 Olympics.
Ryan Smith, owner of the Utah Jazz, Utah Mammoth and Smith Entertainment Group, didn’t make the top 400. Forbes listed his net worth last year at $2.2 billion.
