Hawkeye will soon be getting his own Disney Plus series, which will focus on the characters of Clint Barton and Kate Bishop, who is Barton’s protege. But it turns out Hawkeye was originally meant to have his own feature film.
- According to Bloomberg, Feige held a meeting to talk ideas for future projects when the entire vast of “Avengers: Endgame” was together for the premiere.
- The cast who spoke about ideas included Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch) and Paul Bettany (Vision).
- “Among other ideas, Feige laid out his plans for the Loki series and another called ‘WandaVision,’ focused on the other two characters, who are romantically entwined. Everyone, he says, was stoked. Feige was more nervous about his pitch to Jeremy Renner, who plays The Avengers’ Hawkeye. Marvel had a deal for Renner to star in a movie based on the character, but Feige wanted to turn the project into a Disney Plus series. Renner turned out to be fine with the change,” according to Bloomberg.
- “He totally got it and said, ‘Let’s do it,’” Feige said, according to Bloomberg.
In the comics: In Marvel comics lore, Barton is brought back to life after he dies. But while he is dead, a younger woman, named Kate Bishop, rises up and takes on the Hawkeye name, according to the Deseret News. Barton later rebrands as Ronin.
