“Joker” will be re-released to theaters later this week, Warner Bros. announced Tuesday.

What’s going on: Todd Phillips’ film — which received 11 nominations Monday morning for the Academy Awards, the most of any film — will return to theaters beginning Friday, Jan. 17.

  • The return will offer fans a chance to experience the film again.

What they’re saying: Jeff Goldstein, the president of domestic distribution for Warner Bros. Pictures, celebrated the move.

  • Goldstein: “With the continued interest in ‘Joker’ as a result of its recognition during this exciting awards season, we wanted to give audiences the chance to see the film on the big screen, whether for the first time or again.”

Nominations: “Joker” is up for best picture, and the film’s star, Joaquin Phoenix, is up for best actor.

Yes, but: “Joker” is a problematic film, too.

  • “Joker” was released at a time when there was a high amount of gun violence, which I wrote for the Deseret News.
  • “It’s not the reasonable people that are seeing it that we need to be worried about,” Melissa Henson, program director for the Parents Television Council, told me. “It’s the people that are seeing it and saying, ‘Yeah, I’ve been mistreated too.’ ‘Yes, society has been jumping on me my whole life. And, you know, maybe I should follow this example.’ That’s the thing I think that we need to be concerned about.”
  • “Joker” portrays mental health in a lot of ways but fails to fully address it, as I reported for the Deseret News.
