Multiple sellers on the online craft store platform Etsy have said Disney has removed any Baby Yoda toys from their website, according to The Verge.
What’s going on: Etsy sellers told The Verge that their Baby Yoda toy listings have been removed, which immediately removed any popular and existing merchandise form the website.
- For example: One seller who has been selling a Baby Yoda plushy received a message from Etsy that said her post had been deactivated with a complaint form the Disney.
- The complaint was specifically over the words “Star Wars,” “Mandalorian” and “Yoda,” which were reportedly used in the lsiting to help sell the toy, according to The Verge.
Context: Baby Yoda toys and stuff animals were rare in the immediate days after the character appeared on the Disney Plus show “The Mandalorian” for the first time back in November 2019.
- Disney elected to keep Baby Yoda — whose real name is The Child — a secret. So, to avoid leaks, the company held off making any toys, stuffed animals, blankets or merchandise featuring the character, according to ScreenRant.
- As a result, Disney may have lost $2.7 million in sales from the Christmas season all because Baby Yoda stuff wasn’t available.
- Baby Yoda toys and products have slowly started to filter into the mainstream. Build-A-Bear recently decided to add a Baby Yoda stuff animated to its listings.
