President Donald Trump revealed the logo for the Space Force on Friday.

What happened: Trump tweeted an image of the Space Force logo, which resembled a popular logo from “Star Trek.”

  • Trump: “After consultation with our Great Military Leaders, designers, and others, I am pleased to present the new logo for the United States Space Force, the Sixth Branch of our Magnificent Military!”
  • Space Force was established in 2019 after Trump called for the Pentagon to create the branch of military, according to Axios. Trump chose to add the branch because the U.S. has trailed other nations in establishing a presence in space.

Star Trek: Steve Kovach, a tech editor for CNBC, shared a side-by-side image of the Space Force logo and the Starfleet Command logo. See them below.

Reaction: Social media reacted to the logos, explaining how the logo looks like something from the “Star Trek” franchise. It’s fitting that Trump unveiled the logo now since it’s so close to the debut of “Star Trek: Picard,” the new CBS All Access show.

That said: John Noonan, an aide to Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., tweeted that the new Space Force logo actually looks like the same logo from the Air Force Space Command, a division of the Air Force that is now wrapped under the Space Force.
