The upcoming X-Men spinoff film “The New Mutants” will put a horror spin on the superhero genre, but it will still be rated PG-13.

What’s going on: “The New Mutants” director Josh Boone commented on his own Instagram post, saying the film was never meant to be R-rated and that it would stay PG-13, according to MCU Cosmic.

Boone: “The movie has always been and will always be PG-13. There was never a plan for an R-rated movie.”

Reaction: Bill Sienkiewicz, a comics artist for the “New Mutants” series, said the atmosphere of the film fits the rating, ScreenRant reports.

  • Sienkiewicz: “Scary film at PG-13. The atmosphere, mystery and tone of Josh’s direction makes it work. The cast is stellar, not horror tropes who split from the group 1 by 1 like idiots only to get offed. They’re a team united; forged by the horror, and that’s new take. Bravo Josh and Co.”
