Chrissy Teigen said Wednesday night that she had lost her baby boy after she had been hospitalized for bleeding issues related to the pregnancy.
- Teigen wrote about the experience on social media. The post includes a photo of Teigen sitting on a hospital bed with tears running down her face.
She shared a separate photo on Instagram of her and husband John Legend holding the baby, who they named Jack.
- “We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before. We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough.”
- “Driving home from the hospital with no baby. How can this be real,” she added later.
Legend shared his own post about Jack.
“Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever,” she wrote. “I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive. We will always love you. We love you, Jack.”
It’s unclear whether the baby was stillborn or died after birth.
Teigen previously said her pregnancy was considered “high risk” after complications with her first two children — Luna, 4, and Miles, 2 — who had been born from in vitro fertilization, The Washington Post reports.
Teigen said her recent pregnancy felt “eggshell.” She said her IVF experience felt “untouchable and safe,” according to CNN.
Social media offered thoughts and prayers for Teigen and her husband Wednesday night.
