Lucasfilm has rushed to the defense of “The Mandalorian” and Baby Yoda over a controversial scene in the show’s second episode, “The Passenger.”

Context:

In “The Passenger,” The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) and The Child (Baby Yoda) help transport a random creature named Frog Lady to a nearby planet. Frog Lady carries a few eggs, which represent the last of her kind as they face extinction.

  • At one point, The Child is caught eating the eggs, slurping them down without a care in the world.

There was some feedback from fans that the moment made Baby Yoda a villain and it was a horrific turn of events for the show, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The defense from Lucasfilm

Lucasfilm creative art manager Phil Szostak tweeted his defense of the moment:

  • “For the record, Chapter 10 of #TheMandalorian makes it clear that the Frog Lady’s eggs are unfertilized, like the chicken eggs many of us enjoy. But obviously, chickens aren’t sentient beings and the Child eating the eggs is intentionally disturbing, for comedic effect.”

Was it a kind move?
