Warning: This episode contains spoilers for season 2, episode 3 of ‘The Mandalorian’
“Star Wars: The Mandalorian” took its first step into a larger word.. And this included the return of Bo-Katan Kryze, a major player in “The Clone Wars” episodes.
In the episode, titled “The Heiress,” the Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) and the Child (Baby Yoda) find themselves in a troubling situation on the planet Trask. Soon, they are rescued by a group of Mandalorians, who, unlike Mando, take off their masks and reveal their identities.
One of them happens to be Bo-Katan Kryze, who was known from her time in “The Clone Wars.” She tells Mando she is in search of the Darksaber, a powerful weapon in the “Star Wars” universe so she can rule over the planet Mandalore again.
So who is Bo-Katan?
- Bo-Katan is the former leader of the Mandalorian creed.
- She was the leader of a group called the Nite Owls and a lieutenant in the terrorist group, the Death Watch.
- Kryze’s sister, Satine, ruled over Mandalore. Kryze tried to take over and be less of a pacifist, saying the Mandalore should lean into its aggressive tendencies.
- Kryze worked with Sith Lords Maul and Savage Opress to reclaim Mandalore. They united several crime syndicates to make it happen. Maul took the throne, using the darksaber to do so. He killed Satine and captured Obi-Wan Kenobi, who had come to help. Kryze then changed her mind and helped free the Jedi and wage war against the Sith.
- Kryze teamed up with Ahsoka Tano for the Siege of Mandalore, an important moment at the end of the Clone Wars where the Republic overthrew Maul. She took a position as Lady of House Kryze and Regent of Mandalore. She lost the position when the Empire took over the planet.
- Later, Kryze met Countess Ursa Wren and Sabine Wren on the show “Rebels.” Kryze took the Darksaber and rallied the Mandalorians.
- We don’t know much from then until now. It’s interesting that Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) now wields the darksaber.
