“The Mandalorian” will air its season finale Friday — and we could be in store for another major character death.

What’s going on?

Disney+ will premiere the season 2 finale beginning Friday morning.

The finale — which is the eighth episode of season 2 — will feature the Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) teaming up with Cara Dune (Gina Carano), Fennec (Ming-Na Wen), Boba Fett (Temura Morrison) and possibly others to rescue Grogu (Baby Yoda) from Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Espositio).

The show will then go on hiatus until late next year.

A character death could be on the table

This is a little speculation. But the season 1 finale featured a major death in IG-11, a droid who helped rescue the Child for the Mandalorian, despite Mando not trusting the robot. The droid saved the day but passed away in one of the most dramatic moments in the show’s history.

We’ve seen a lot of new characters introduced during season 2 — from Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) to Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff — and yet none of them have died from their interactions with the Imperials so far. We’ve seen a relatively safe season for most of our characters.

A character death might come in the season finale. After all, an early leak of the soundtrack suggests one of the songs is titled “Rest in Peace,” which hints at a character's death.

Who would die?

Boba Fett and Fennec are certainly potential frontrunners to die in the finale. The two characters have been helping Mando on his quest to rescue Grogu, so it would be tragic for them to pass away while helping him on the mission.

But the deaths of Greef Karga or Dune might hit home a little more. The two characters started in season 1, and likely provide the most emotional weight for the show if they’re looking for the character's death to have a major impact.

Cara Dune and the controversy

Dune’s fate might be especially troublesome given Carano’s recent controversy. The actress fell under fire earlier this season after she tweeted out political beliefs about voter fraud. She also shared a few memes that mocked Democrats and face masks, which prompted the hashtag #FireGinaCarano. Some speculated that she would soon exit the show.

That said, Carano also has her own potential spinoff in the works — it’s possible she shows up in the newly-announced “Rangers of the Republic” — so she would likely appear again on a Disney+ product.

What to expect

Anything is possible in a season finale. The show will drop at 1 a.m. MST on Disney+ so keep your eye to find out if anyone passes away in the finale.
