It looks like “Star Wars” just added another new show.

What’s going on?

Disney announced Monday that “The Book of Boba Fett” — which was teased at the end of the “The Mandalorian” season 2 finale — will be an original series set within the timeline of “The Mandalorian.”

  • The series will star Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett and Ming-na Wen as Fennec.
  • Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni will produce the show.
  • The original series will debut in December 2021.

Why it matters

After “The Mandalorian” season 2 finale, an end credits scene showed Boba Fett taking over Jabba’s Palace. A title card flashed up that read: “The Book of Boba Fett” and that it was coming in 2021.

Speculation arose over the weekend about whether “BOBF” was a spinoff or would be the third season of “The Mandalorian.” We now have an answer.

The show has been rumored for a while. Reports surfaced in November 2020 that Boba Fett would get his own miniseries with Disney, though it was unclear when it would begin production.

Boba Fett returned to “Star Wars” at the end of “The Mandalorian” season 2 premiere episode.
