It was an impressive — most impressive — week for Darth Vader, as he was recently named the greatest “Star Wars” villain in a new poll.
What’s going on?
The Radio Times recently polled 10,000 people about “Star Wars” villains, trying to see who topped the list.
- Darth Vader received 33% of the vote, topping the list.
- Sheev Palpatine — the emperor — won 18% of the vote, which placed him at No. 2 on the list.
- Darth Maul and Boba Fett both earned 6%.
Key quote:
“Never underestimate the power of the Dark Side,” Huw Fullerton, RadioTimes.com editor, said in a statement. Over 40 years after he first wheezed his way onto our screens, it’s clear that Star Wars’ fans’ faith in Lord Vader remains stronger than ever, with a third of the thousands who voted picking him as their favourite villain from the series. Star Wars films and TV series may come and go, but Darth Vader will always be the ultimate villain. Truly, he is the Master.”
Darth Vader’s return
Darth Vader will be back in the upcoming “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series on Disney Plus. In fact, Hayden Christensen will return for the role.
- “It was such an incredible journey playing Anakin Skywalker,” said Christensen in a press release. “Of course, Anakin and Obi-Wan weren’t on the greatest of terms when we last saw them. … It will be interesting to see what an amazing director like Deborah Chow has in store for us all. I’m excited to work with Ewan again. It feels good to be back.”
