2021 will be off to a hard start with “The Office” leaving Netflix.
What’s going on?
Beginning on Jan. 1, 2021, “The Office” will leave Netflix and switch over to the Peacock app, which is run by NBC Universal.
- The show will stream exclusively on Peacock for the future. It’s unclear when that deal will expire.
- NBC Universal owns “The Office,” so the move is a bit of a homecoming for the show.
Bigger picture:
“The Office” has been one of the biggest shows in the streaming era of television, becoming a mainstay on Netflix despite ending almost 10 years ago.
- In fact, “The Office” topped the list of most-streamed Netflix shows for 2020, trailing only “Cocomelon,” according to the Deseret News.
How to watch:
As the Deseret News reported, people can watch all seasons of “The Office” by signing up for the premium tier of Peacock, which costs $4.99 per month, according to CNBC. The ad-free version of Peacock costs $9.99 per month.
That said, you can watch seasons 1 and 2 for free on the app.
