Disney Plus has made an edit to the film “Splash,” replacing bare skin with extra CGI hair.

What’s going on:

  • Disney Plus made a quick edit to the Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah film “Splash.” In one scene, Hannah kisses Hanks on the beach before running back to the ocean, revealing partial nudity.
  • But, Disney Plus decided to edit the film. Partial nudity has been edited out, according to Collider.
  • Disney Plus has long celebrated PG-rated films, opting to avoid content that leans too violent or dangerous. That said, there are PG-13 films on the streaming service, like “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” and “Avengers: Endgame.”
  • Critics slammed Disney for using digital fur technology to create fur that looks more fake than realistic.

Disney Plus still working on it

  • After its debut, the Parents Television Council said Disney Plus was a “a much safer platform for families than most other streaming services.” However, PTC said Disney still had some work to do if it wanted to be considered completely family-friendly, according to my report for the Deseret News.
  • “Disney Plus is an 80% streaming solution for families, and we applaud the company for its focus on making family-friendly content,” said PTC President Tim Winter in a statement emailed to the Deseret News. “So far, the biggest challenge we see with Disney Plus is that it does not include parental controls or content filtering. While the company has promised not to include R-rated content, by its own admission, Disney Plus was not designed exclusively for children.”
  • “Even titles from Marvel and Star Wars franchises contain higher levels of violence, and some PG-13 titles may include harsher language or profanity, sexual innuendo or suggestive dialogue. To be an even more ideal streaming platform for families, Disney Plus must give families the ability to allow filtering,” Winter said.
