Felicity Huffman’s daughter has been accepted into Carnegie Mellon University, closing a loop in the college admissions scandal.
What’s the news:
- Huffman’s daughter, Sophia Macy, updated her Instagram bio this week, adding the words, “CMU Drama ’24.” This is a sign she will be attending the university’s theater department beginning this fall.
- Georgia Macy, Sophia’s younger sister, will attend Vassar College for her freshman year.
- An unnamed source told People magazine: “Felicity is so proud and grateful that Sofia has kept her chin up over the last year. It was a painful, challenging time and she pulled through it with strength and grace.”
- Per PageSix.com, “Sophia Macy — who had no idea about Huffman’s scheme — has triumphantly proven that she could do it all by herself.”
Some context:
- Huffman was one of several wealthy parents accused in the college admissions scandal almost a year ago. She served 11 days in prison in October 2019 after she pleaded guilty to paying scandal mastermind William “Rick” Singer to have a proctor change Sophia’s answers on the SAT, as I reported for the Deseret News.
- During the sentencing, Huffman wrote in a letter to the judge, “When my daughter looked at me and asked with tears streaming down her face, ‘Why didn’t you believe in me? Why didn’t you think I could do it on my own?’ I had no adequate answer for her. I could only say, ‘I am sorry.’ ”
