Sony announced Tuesday that the company’s PlayStation Now subscription service has 2.2 million subscribers.
PlayStation Now — a cloud gaming subscription service that offers gamers a chance to play video games on demand, like Netflix for gaming — has doubled its number of subscriptions from the same time last year.
The jump comes after Sony announced cuts in pricing. The subscription service used to cost $19.99 per month or $99.99 a year. Now, the price is $9.99 a month and $59.99 for the year.
A quick context:
- The Verge said: “Though the number of PlayStation Now subscribers looks huge on paper, Sony launched the service over five years ago, so it’s been slow to grow. Its closest competitor, Xbox Game Pass, which also offers a massive library of games for subscribers to play, had accumulated 10 million subscribers as of April, after launching in 2017.”
