Paramount Network pulled the plug on “Cops” Tuesday, ending the show after a brief six-year run on the network, Deadline reports.

What’s going on:

  • Paramount Network decided to pull “Cops” from airing last week after the death of George Floyd and nationwide protests over racial injustice and police brutality, according to Deadline.
  • Paramount Network spokesperson said: “‘Cops’ is not on the Paramount Network and we don’t have any current or future plans for it to return.”
  • Rashad Robinson, executive director of Color of Change told The New York Times: “This is the right move and I want to give Paramount credit for being one of the first. We want to see more.”

History of ‘Cops’

  • “Cops” originally aired in 1989 on Fox and aired for 25 seasons, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
  • SpikeTV revived the series in 2013 for new episodes.
  • SpikeTV became Paramount Network in 2018.

A similar decision

  • The television channel A&E pulled its episodes of the show “Live PD,” which shows officers on patrol in real-time, sort of like “Cops.” New episodes are unlikely to air this weekend over the ongoing protests. The company is still evaluating is decision, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
