Sony has decided to increase the production for the PlayStation 5 as gaming demand remains high during the coronavirus pandemic, according to Bloomberg.

Sony has decided to roughly double its production to 10 million units per year.

Sources told Bloomberg that suppliers and partners recently learned about the desired increase in units. However, logistics could cause problems in getting that many units out in time for the holiday season.

As ComicBook.com pointed out, shipping can be a major issue, especially when you’re moving units across the world.

“Shipping the consoles across the world will be a factor since a significant part of the production is based in China, and we’ve already seen earlier in the year with the Nintendo Switch how a console’s availability can be impacted by such restraints during times like these,” according to ComicBook.com.

Sony has previously suggested it would produce 5 million to 6 million PS5 systems, hoping to meet that number by March 2021.

The increase in products come as people wait to see what happens during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Concerns about a second wave of coronavirus infections may keep more people at home for longer, as governments around the world closely monitor efforts to reopen their economies. Sony’s revised expectation is that this ongoing situation will stir additional demand for the PlayStation 5 console, whose official debut captivated the gaming community,” according to Bloomberg.

On June 11, Sony revealed first look images of the PlayStation 5 at an event, which I wrote about for Deseret.com. The full design revealed that Sony has decided to release a digital edition of the PS5, which would allow people t buy games digitally but not insert discs.
