TikTok will host a virtual concert in August by The Weeknd, who will perform a number of tracks from his latest album “After Hours.”
TikTok announced the concert — called “The Weeknd Experience” — on Thursday.
But this won’t be a typical live video concert. Instead, it will show a digital avatar of the Weeknd for the “first-ever in-app cross reality experience.” Users will have a chance to interact with the Weeknd during the show, too.
Per TikTok, the concert will be “a live fan interactive & immersive XR moment.”
There will be encourage shows as well.
The show will run on Friday, August 7, at 6:30 p.m. on the official @tiktok account.

The Weeknd has seen some success on TikTok. The song “Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd came out in Nov. 2019 and debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard charts. It didn’t hit the top 10 until after the #BlindingLightsChallenge began on TikTok. In fact, the challenge began on March 23. One week later, the song hit the top five.
