Upgrading to the new iOS 14 on your iPhone might end up deleting Fortnite from your phone.
What’s going on?
- The Fortnight Status Twitter account — a verified account that explains the current state of Fortnite’s servers and game connections — tweeted out that upgrading the Apple system could lead to iPhones losing the app overall.
- The message “Temporarily Remove Apps to Install the Software Update?” will appear after the update. Accepting the message could lead to the game being deleted.
- “Fortnite cannot later be reinstalled due to Apple preventing users from doing so,” the account tweeted.
However, there’s a way to keep it
- The message will only appear if you perform the iOS 14 update without space for the download, according to Polygon.
- Clearing space can help.
Why is this happening?
Apple and Epic Games — the parent company of Fortnite — remained locked in a legal battle after the latter decided to add its own payment system to Fortnite, which I wrote about for Deseret.com.
- Apple said (via CNBC): “Today, Epic Games took the unfortunate step of violating the App Store guidelines that are applied equally to every developer and designed to keep the store safe for our users. As a result their Fortnite app has been removed from the store.”
Apple removed Fortnite from the app store, leaving Fortnite fans without a chance to update their game with the new season.
Epic Games confirmed iPhone users can’t download the new season.
“Apple is blocking Fortnite updates and new installs on the App Store, and has said they will terminate our ability to develop Fortnite for Apple devices. As a result, Fortnite’s newly released Chapter 2 — Season 4 update (v14.00), will not release on iOS and macOS on Aug. 27.
“If you still want to play Fortnite on Android, you can access the latest version of Fortnite from the Epic Games App for Android on Fortnite.com/Android or the Samsung Galaxy Store.”
