Marvel chief creative officer Kevin Feige said in a recent interview that there will be more “Avengers” films in the near future.

What’s going on?

Feige told IGN the newest “Avengers” film won’t come in the near future. But it will eventually be used in a title, he said.

  • “I would have to think so. I would have to say yes, at some point. It’s a good title. Could use that.”
  • “We had a movie this year called ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ and it is very much an ending, as you saw, to so many of those characters,” Feige said. “So Phase 4 is about beginnings, and Phase 4 is about learning new things about characters you already think you know, like Black Widow; meeting incredible new characters like The Eternals and Shang-Chi(.)”

Some extra context

As ComicBook.com points out, it’s unclear when there would be a new “Avengers” film since the Avengers team remains a little scattered after the events of “Avengers Endgame.”

  • However, Marvel has plenty of new content to explore with “WandaVision” coming up next, “Loki” soon after that and plenty of other Marvel films in the works.
  • No “Avengers” film has been included on a list of upcoming Marvel projects.

The ‘Avengers 5’ rumor

View Comments

Rumors from March 2020 suggested that Captain Marvel may be the leader of the new Avengers team, and she might even become a villain, as I wrote for the Deseret News.

  • We Got This Covered, a news and rumors site for entertainment projects, suggested that Marvel “is taking a bit of inspiration from a recent arc in the comics where Captain Marvel turns evil and apparently, the plan is to have her possessed by an evil entity from space, similar to that of the Phoenix Force that Jean Grey from the X-Men had to deal with, making Carol extremely powerful, even more so than she is now.”
  • This storyline would then be teased at the end of “Avengers 5” and then be a main storyline in “Captain Marvel 3,” according to the report.
