Katy Perry will be teaming up with Pokémon for the 25th anniversary of the iconic trading card game, headlining a new music program with Universal Music Group.

  • Per People magazine, there aren’t a lot of details right now about the partnership. However, P25 Music will feature multiple music announcements related to Pokemon throughout the year.

What’s going on?

Perry told People magazine that her recent experience as a new mother made the partnership easy for her.

  • “I love being a part of anything that is playful and is good storytelling and has really good messages to share with the world,” Perry told People magazine “Now having a child myself, I understand that it’s so important to play. This is a continued extension of who I am.”

Perry said she actually relates to one of the most popular Pokemon — Pikachu.

Perry told People magazine she hopes that her decision to work with Pokemon will provide happiness and hope to adults and children everywhere.

  • “In this moment of unknown, there are dependable places and characters and institutions and people, and I hope I can be one of them,” Perry told People magazine. “That’s what I hope for in my personal self, and even in my involvement with this collab.”

According to ComicBook.com, Pokemon will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a number of different projects, including a collaboration with the International Space Station.

  • Pokemon will be releasing new products, too, including new games, replica items and updates to the game Pokemon Go.
