What’s going on?
Deadline reports that Michael Waldron — who penned “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” and produced the Disney+ series “Loki” — will be writing the new “Star Wars” film.
- Feige will develop and produce the film for Lucasfilm and Disney.
Deadline reports Waldron signed a massive deal with Disney to work with the franchise for the near future, letting him work with “Loki” Season 2.
- “Not only is the deal a rarity at the studios, it clearly shows how much faith Disney, Marvel and Lucasfilm have in Waldron going forward and surely should open doors for years to come and many more high-profile properties,” according to Deadline.
More details about the film:
Reports from September 2019 suggested that Feige has a “major actor” in mind for a specific role in the upcoming film, as I wrote for the Deseret News. Other than that, there are no details, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Alan Horn, Walt Disney Studios co-chairman and chief creative officer, told The Hollywood Reporter that Feige was chosen for a specific reason.
- “We are excited about the projects Kathy and the Lucasfilm team are working on, not only in terms of ‘Star Wars’ but also ‘Indiana Jones’ and reaching into other parts of the company including ‘Children of Blood and Bone’ with Emma Watts and Fox,” Horn told the magazine. “With the close of the Skywalker Saga, Kathy is pursuing a new era in ‘Star Wars’ storytelling, and knowing what a die-hard fan Kevin is, it made sense for these two extraordinary producers to work on a ‘Star Wars’ film together.”
