Warning: This article contains spoilers for “WandaVision” Episode 7.

“WandaVision” had some big reveals in the seventh episode of the show, mostly centered around the character Agnes and her true intentions.

What happened

The end of the episode featured a major twist and reveal. Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) heads over to Agnes’ house after a confrontation with Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris). She asks where her children are. Agnes tells her to go to the basement, so she does. It’s there that Agnes confronts her and reveals that she also has magical abilities just like Wanda.

Agnes reveals herself to be Agatha Harkness, a villain with magical abilities. She then shows herself to have all the same powers as Wanda. Agnes then shows Wanda a series of clips where Agatha is shown orchestrating all the major issues of the shows, manipulating any event that negatively affected Wanda.

In essence, Agnes revealed that she has been trying to hurt Wanda the entire time.

Who is Agatha Harkness?

Agatha Harkness is a character from the Marvel comic books. She has her own page on the Marvel Database, a fan-based wiki that has bios and information on all things Marvel. So we hit up that page to find out more about her.

Agatha is a witch who lived during the Salem Witch Trials. She’s apparently old enough to remember a time 500 years before Atlantis sank to the bottom of the ocean, so she’s definitely got some ties to the past.

She also became a governess who tutored young children in need. She retired from the profession before the Fantastic Four sought her out to watch over Franklin Richards, the child of Reed and Sue Richards. She then created an evil version of the Fantastic Four called the Frightful Four and had the two fight each other. So that’s fun.

But here’s the other thing: Harkness has a history with the Scarlet Witch — the nickname of Wanda Maximoff — in the comics.

A group called the Salem Seven took over the New Salem Community. The group killed Agatha. So Scarlet Witch, who was trying to fight the Salem Seven and had captured six of them with the help of Vision, avenged her death. She then captured some of the Vertigo of the Seven energy to get it away from the town, which was destroyed anyway and used the rest of the energy to help her become pregnant with children.

Agatha came back into the fold soon after (she somehow returned from the dead). She said Scarlet Witch’s children were fragments of Mephisto — the devilish character from the Marvel comics. Wild. She then wipes away the memories of Scarlet Witch’s kids rather than fight Mephisto to free them.

What does this mean?

There’s not too much to take away here. But the New Salem storyline at the end of her bio hints at what could come in “WandaVision.” Will she wipe away Wanda’s memories of her children? Is Mephisto in the show?

We have only two episodes to find out more, and it’s unclear if there will be a second season.
