The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square has announced actor Dennis Haysbert as this year’s guest narrator for the annual Christmas concert.
Haysbert is known for his Golden Globe-nominated performance as President David Palmer on the TV series “24″ and his recent role in the Hallmark series, “Holidazed.”
His selection follows a line of impressive previous narrators including Edward Herrman, Peter Graves, Sir David Suchet and Kristin Chenoweth.
The choir previously announced Broadway star Ruthie Ann Miles as the guest artist for this year’s beloved Christmas concert.
This year’s Christmas concert runs from Thursday, Dec. 19 to Saturday, Dec. 21.
Who is Dennis Haysbert?
Haysbert’s career in television and film spans more than four decades. His breakthrough role was as President David Palmer on the TV series “24″ and his performance on the series earned him Golden Globe and SAG Award nominations.
“The iconic voice and great stage presence of Dennis Haysbert will greatly add to the spirit and meaning of Christmas at this year’s Tabernacle Choir concert,” choir director Mack Wilberg said in a statement.
His distinct voice is recognized as the sound behind the “Meet The Press” introduction, which is heard weekly on TV and radio by listeners across the world.
In addition to his role in “24,″ Haysbert has appeared in a variety of other TV series such as “The Unit” and “Blue Bloods.” He has also acted in several notable films including “Major League,” “Love and Basketball,” “Far From Heaven” and “Love Field.”
Haysbert is currently starring in “Holidazed,” a Christmas series on Hallmark about a neighborhood of families in Oak Bay, Oregon, who each experience unique joys and pressures of the holiday season.
In 2006, he did voiceover ads for BYU football, as previously reported by the Deseret News.
Who is the guest artist this year?
Broadway star Ruthie Ann Miles will star as the guest artist at the 2024 Tabernacle Choir Christmas concert, the Deseret News previously reported.
Miles is currently starring in the play “McNeal” on Broadway, alongside Robert Downey Jr.
“Ruthie Ann Miles is acclaimed for her vocal talents paired with unforgettable performances,” Wilberg said in a statement. “We are delighted to have her perform with the choir and orchestra to bring joy into the hearts of our audiences as we celebrate the Savior’s birth.”
How to get tickets for the Tabernacle Choir Christmas concert
Tickets for the 2024 Tabernacle Choir Christmas concert have already all been claimed, but a standby line forms every night in the Tabernacle at Temple Square. The line will begin forming at 6 p.m. each night before the 8 p.m. concert.
Tickets for the annual Christmas concert are free, but were already distributed to guests through a random selection process which ran between Oct. 15 and Nov. 1.
No tickets are required to attend the 30-minute “Music & the Spoken Word” broadcast held weekly on Sundays at 9:30 a.m. Miles and Haysbert are scheduled to perform at the broadcast on Sunday, Dec. 22.
