A live-action “Tangled” movie is reportedly in the works at Disney — and “The Greatest Showman” director Michael Gracey is in talks to direct.
Deadline reports that Jennifer Kaytin Robinson — who wrote “Thor: Love and Thunder” — has written the script, and Kristin Burr and Lucy Kitada from Burr! Productions are set to produce.
Gracey’s directorial debut, 2017′s “The Greatest Showman,” was a smash-hit, making $435 million worldwide and winning both a Golden Globe and a Grammy.
“Tangled,” which came out in 2010, is a musical retelling of the classic fairytale “Rapunzel.”
Mandy Moore voiced Rapunzel, while Zachary Levi voiced Flynn Rider. One of the film’s songs, “At Last I See the Light,” was nominated for best original song at the 83rd Academy Awards.
While the plot for the live-action version of “Tangled” hasn’t been revealed, it’s expected to closely follow the original film, per Deadline.
The “Tangled” remake is the latest live-action version of a classic Disney film. The live-action version of “The Little Mermaid” came out in 2023 and Disney’s latest, “Snow White” starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, comes out March 2025.
Meanwhile, Disney is working on a live-action version of “Moana,” which will be released in 2026, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Audiences can expect to see more live-action versions of their favorite animated films. Next year will see the release of multiple live-action films, including “How to Train Your Dragon,” “Lilo & Stitch” and more.
