A live-action adaptation of Disney’s “Tangled” is in the works, and many people have taken to social media to debate who should be cast in the starring roles.

Aiding the debate is the fact that there has been no information released so far on the cast or when the movie will be released.

So far, the only thing known about the movie is that Michael Gracey from “The Greatest Showman” might be directing it, per Deadline.

Fans of the original animated movie have high expectations for whoever plays Rapunzel and Flynn Rider in the upcoming adaptation.

“You’ve got to nail their charm, their chemistry, AND their energy to match the magic of the original. The fans won’t settle for anything less than perfection — good luck!” one fan wrote on Threads in a post addressed to Disney Studios.

Here are some of the actors fans have suggested for Rapunzel and Flynn Rider.

Here is who fans think should play Darcy in Netflix’s ‘Pride and Prejudice’

Who will play Rapunzel in the live-action ‘Tangled’?

Sabrina Carpenter

The idea of Sabrina Carpenter playing Rapunzel is something I’ve seen floating around the internet for years, long before the live-action movie was confirmed.

On X, one user wrote, “I need Sabrina Carpenter to be Rapunzel more than I can say with words.”

With her iconic blonde hair, Carpenter does fit the iconic look of Rapunzel from the animated movie.

Avantika

Avantika, who played Karen in the “Mean Girls” musical that came out in January, has also been proposed. Casting her as Rapunzel would represent a departure from the character’s look in the original movie.

“Yes im going with the fancast of avantika because she’s genuinely talented. she can play the lighthearted bubbly energy that rapunzel brings to the table while also protraying her headstrong stubborness,” a user on Threads wrote.

Meg Donnelly

Meg Donnelly is another actress who has the classic blonde look of Rapunzel in the animated movie.

“So Tangled will have a live action, then can we have Meg Donnelly as Rapunzel please?” one user wrote on X.

Donnelly is already well acquainted with Disney. She was one of the leads in the movie franchise “Zombies.”

Florence Pugh

Florence Pugh is another name that I’ve seen floating around in connection with the role of Rapunzel for a while now.

One user wrote on X, “Hear me out- Florence Pugh as Rapunzel.”

While Pugh may be too old to play the 18-year-old character, she does bear a striking resemblance to the character in the original movie.

Mckenna Grace

So far, Mckenna Grace, who is 18, is the only age-accurate casting suggestion I have seen for Rapunzel.

One X user wrote, “Now that the ‘Tangled’ Live-Action remake is official - my fan cast for Rapunzel is easily McKenna Grace. She’s a solid actor, full of charisma and has great voice.”

Grace, who has starred in “Gifted” and “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” does fit Rapunzel’s young and innocent look from the animated movie.

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan is another casting suggestion that would depart from the classic blonde look from the original movie.

One user on Threads wrote, “Now that they’re officially making a live-action Tangled, they need to cast Maitreyi Ramakrishnan as Rapunzel she would be literally perfect for the role !!!”

Ramakrishnan is best known for playing the main character in the Netflix series “Never Have I Ever.”

Who will play Flynn Rider in the live-action ‘Tangled’?

Taylor Zakhar Perez

Perez is another suggestion that I have seen floating around on social media long before a live-action “Tangled” project was confirmed.

Almost every time I have seen Perez as a suggestion for Flynn, he’s been paired with Carpenter as Rapunzel — the two are known to be friends.

“Why are they looking for who to cast for the Tangled live-action when clearly Sabrina Carpenter and Taylor Zakhar Perez is right here!!!!!!!!!!!!!” one user on Threads wrote.

Milo Manheim

Milo Manheim, who costarred with Donnelly in “Zombies,” is another actor being debated by “Tangled” fans.

“Milo Manheim would be a pretty adorable, age appropriate Flynn Rider,” wrote one user on Threads.

Manheim is 23 years old, and the character of Flynn Rider is said to be 26.

Fabien Frankel

Before seeing multiple people suggest Fabien Frankel for Flynn Rider online, I had never heard of him before.

After looking him up, I will say Frankel, who is known for “House of The Dragon,” does bear a striking resemblance to the animated character.

On X, one user wrote, “He can sing and he literally has the same face as Flynn, Fabien Frankel has to be Flynn Rider!!!!”

Jonathan Bailey

I wasn’t surprised at all to see Jonathan Bailey as a suggestion for Flynn Rider, especially given his most recent performance as Fiyero in “Wicked.”

“Jonathan bailey as Fiyero was THE perfect audition for flynn rider, charming interactions with a sassy horse included,” one user wrote on X.

While Bailey definitely has the demeanor, charisma and looks to play Flynn Rider, at 36, he might just be too old to play the 26-year-old character.

Joshua Colley

Joshua Colley is another actor who has the look of Flynn Rider from the animated movie.

“The Joshua Colley Flynn Rider campaign begins TODAY,” one user wrote on X.

View Comments

Colley is the youngest of the options I’ve seen. He’s just 22 years old, and he has previously appeared in “Descendants: The Rise of Red,” and “Senior Year,” among other projects.

Luke Newton

Another leading man from Netflix’s “Bridgerton,” Luke Newton, is a common suggestion.

“Cast Luke Newton as Flynn Rider in the live-action movie of Tangled!” wrote one user in a TikTok caption.

Newton is another man who has the looks to match the original movie’s Flynn Rider, and anyone who has seen him in the series “The Lodge” knows he can sing.
