More than a year after “The Gilded Age” Season 2 finale, fans finally have more details about Season 3.
The show was picked up for a third season shortly after the season finale, and “The Gilded Age” Season 3 reportedly began filming in July 2024, according to ScreenRant.
One of the show’s stars sat down with ScreenRant late last year to discuss filming season 3.
Carrie Coon, who plays Bertha Russell, told ScreenRant, “We’re shooting it right now, honey. So, hopefully, we’ll be wrapping up by January, and then they’ll do all their CGI business and get it out to the people.”
Coon continued, “But we’re having a great time. It’s a great group of people, and I’m having a ball doing it. I’m headed to Newport next week for more mansion time. So it’s great.”
This week, an HBO spokesperson confirmed the news to TV Insider.
Is there a ‘The Gilded Age’ Season 3 release date?
While there’s no release date yet, it’s very likely that season 3 will premiere this year.
ScreenRant estimates that “The Gilded Age” Season 3 will be released in late fall 2025.
What will happen in ‘The Gilded Age’ Season 3?
The plot for “The Gilded Age” Season 3 remains under wraps, but fans have been given a few hints.
In late 2023, executive producer and co-writer Sonja Warfield sat down with Collider and revealed a few key plot points for season 3.
- Power dynamics between Agnes (Christine Baranski) and Ada (Cynthia Nixon) will change. Because Ada saved the Van Rhijns’ home, she’s now technically mistress of the house — and “the power dynamics are going to totally change,” Warfield told Collider.
- Bertha and George’s marriage will begin to strain. After Bertha secured the Duke of Buckingham’s attendance at the Met’s opening night by essentially selling Gladys (Taissa Farmiga), her husband George (Morgan Spector) probably won’t be happy — which will “put the marriage under pressure,” Collider reported.
- Larry (Harry Richardson) and Marian’s (Louisa Jacobson) romance will continue to grow. Fans will see Larry and Marian’s romance continue in season 3. But because the tension between their families, there will be “layers of complication for Agnes, for Bertha, for society, all of it,” according to Warfield.
- Peggy (Denée Benton) will focus on her career. After seeing heartbreak last season — both with the death of her son and her failed romance with T. Thomas Fortune — Peggy will “be on the straight and narrow and think about her career,” per Collider’s report.
There have also been a slew of additions to “The Gilded Age” Season 3 cast that could hint at potential storylines in season 3.
As Deadline reported last July, there will be a new family in Newport: the Kirkland family, whose patriarch (Brian Stokes Mitchell) is “the pastor of a prominent Black church and a leader in the Newport community.”
Among many others, Merritt Wever also joined the cast, portraying Monica O’ Brien, “the estranged sister of Bertha,” per Deadline.
