Elijah Wood thinks Sundance Film Festival should stay in Park City, Utah.

“(Sundance) should stay in Park City!” Wood told reporters at a Sundance press line on Saturday night. “I can’t divorce it from here, it’s so bizarre.”

He continued, “All of our memories, our shared DNA is like walking down Main Street and trudging through the snow and getting to the Eccles (Theatre) and getting to the Library (Center Theatre). That’s part of the DNA of this place, so I don’t know, it’s a bizarre thing to imagine extrapolating this, this place from the festival.”

“Time will tell, but so far I can’t imagine it.”

In April, Sundance Institute announced it had opened a Request for Proposal as part of a process to explore locations across the country to host the film festival.

The festival’s contract with Park City is up for renewal in 2027. That means Sundance Institute has time to consider new host cities for future festivals.

Utah is among three finalists selected by Sundance Film Institute to host the festival beginning in 2027, as previously reported by the Deseret News.

In addition to Park City, Sundance Film Institute is considering Boulder, Colorado, and Cincinnati, Ohio, as future host cities.

Wood attended the festival this year as a producer of “Rabbit Trap,” which premiered at Sundance this weekend as part of the festival’s Midnight program.

Premiering a film at Sundance “still holds so much weight,” Wood told reporters at the premiere.

“It is such a special place to bring a film,” he continued. “There’s incredible history here, 44 years of breaking filmmakers, discovering incredible voices in cinema. So to be among them, to bring a film here, is so so extraordinary and something we don’t take for granted.”
