The Super Bowl is just around the corner, so it’s time to get ready for the big game.
Fans are gearing up for Sunday’s action by preparing their food menus and buying team swag, decorations and more.
If you’re looking for more ways to get ready for the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, consider watching a movie that references one of the NFL franchises or football in general.
Here are some movies that will get you in the mood for Super Bowl fun.
Movies tied to the Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles are referenced in a few major movies.
A couple of the shoutouts are pretty memorable, but there are two on this list that you likely missed.
‘Invincible’ (2006)
Rating: PG
Streaming: Disney+
This movie is an obvious choice for Eagles fans.
“Invincible” follows local Philadelphia bartender, Vince Papale (Mark Wahlberg), who has been a long-time Eagles fan. When the team holds tryouts for community members, he has a shot at living his dream when he becomes a member of the team.
‘Anger Management’ (2003)
Rating: PG-13
Streaming: Tubi
While this movie is all about angry people getting in your face, its Eagles reference is subtle.
Dave Buznik (Adam Sandler) is sent to anger management classes after an incident on a plane. While attending the classes, you meet one of Buznik’s classmates, who is a big Eagles fan. He struggles to keep his cool whenever his team loses and, according to Philadelphia Sports Nation, he loses his cool often.
‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ (2015)
Rating: PG-13
Streaming: Disney+
According to Deadspin, the sound engineer for Lucasfilm, David Acord, is a Philadelphia Eagles fan, and while working on two of the Star Wars movies, he worked in subtle Eagles references.
In “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” Acord voiced the reptile-like scavenger, Teedo. While creating a language for the reptile species, he added “Celek” and “Fletcher” to the character’s vocabulary. This is a reference to the Eagles tight end Brent Celek and former Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox, per Deadspin.
‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ (2016)
Rating: PG-13
Streaming: Disney+
Deadspin also reported that Acord drew on his love for the Eagles when creating the Jedha City prayer chant in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”
Acord took the Eagles’ fight song, “Fly, Eagles, Fly,” and translated it into Esperanto — a universal language created in the late 1800s. You can hear it in the background when Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) and Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) are searching Jedha City for Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker).
‘Silver Linings Playbook’ (2012)
Rating: R
Streaming: Max
In this award-winning movie, real-life Eagles fan Bradley Cooper plays a major Eagles fan who is going through a mental health crisis.
“Silver Linings Playbook” was filmed in and around Philadelphia, according to Sports Illustrated.
Movies tied to the Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs aren’t referenced as often in movies as the Eagles.
But Hallmark recently released a movie that was completely centered on them.
‘Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story’ (2024)
Rating: G
Streaming: DIRECTV and The Roku Channel
Hallmark has done it all now. The entertainment powerhouse recently teamed up with the NFL to make a holiday movie about a dedicated Chiefs fan, Alana (Hunter King), who is determined to win the Chiefs Fan of the Year contest.
According to Today, the movie includes scenes in Arrowhead Stadium and has cameos from “NFL mom Donna Kelce, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and players Mecole Hardman, Clyde Edwards-Helaire and George Karlaftis,” and plenty of Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift hidden references.
