Fans of “The Chosen,” the wait is officially over. All eight episodes of the fifth season of “The Chosen” are now available to stream for free in “The Chosen” app.
The fifth season is available on the app in both the U.S. and Canada as well as internationally.
In addition to the new episodes, behind-the-scenes content and Season 5 episodes of “The Aftershow” are also available to stream in “The Chosen” app.
Episodes of “The Aftershow” follow every episode of “The Chosen” and feature writers, cast members and crew who share behind-the-scenes insights into the making of the series.
“I love the ‘Aftershow.’ Huge fan of ‘The Aftershow’ ... it’s just so interesting,” Vanessa Benavente, who plays Mother Mary on the series, told the Deseret News. “It’s so cool. So I really would recommend people to hit the app (for ‘The Aftershow’).”
Season 5 of “The Chosen” debuted theatrically in three segments in March and April.
Over the course of the series’ phased theatrical release, it generated more than $42.4 million in domestic ticket sales, pushing the franchise as a whole over the $100 million mark at the box office, as the Deseret News previously reported.
Following its theatrical release, the series premiered exclusively on Prime Video, where it climbed to the No. 1 series on the platform just days after its release.
“It’s very humbling,” Giavani Cairo, the actor who plays Thaddeus on the series, said of the fifth season’s success.
Cairo added, “Just to see the outpour of people who love ‘The Chosen’ and love the message that it’s spreading — as actors I think you always want to be a part of something that’s bigger than yourself. ... It’s really been the highlight of my career."
The fifth season comes to the app now as it completes a 90-day window of exclusivity with Prime Video, which is part the agreement between Amazon Studios and 5&2 Studios, which “The Chosen” creator Dallas Jenkins announced earlier this year.
“In order for us to be able to give this show (for) free around the world ... Season 5 will only be available (exclusively) on Prime for a period of time,” Jenkins said during a June livestream.
“In order to keep it free, like I’ve promised, that requires some sacrifices on our part,” he added. “And because we have made it free, people around the world in literally every country in the world have been able to enjoy this show and be impacted by this show.”
When does ‘The Chosen’ Season 6 come out?
Filming for the sixth season of “The Chosen” wrapped in mid-September, and the season is expected to begin a phased theatrical release during late 2026, Jenkins said during an April livestream.
The Season 6 finale will be theatrically released on March 12, 2027, as a standalone film “designed for the big screen experience,” he said.
For those who are eager for the next season to be released, Jenkins said, “Season 6 will come. We will tell you the dates when we know them.”
As filming came to a close, all of the women on the series wrapped their scenes at the same time, Benavente said, and they all “started screaming.”
“Most of our scenes this season was very, very emotional,” she continued. “So we just needed to let it out of our system and it was so cathartic.”
Benavente described filming for the sixth season as a “gorgeous, grueling experience ... it’s also been one of the toughest seasons for me personally.”
For Cairo, it was also an emotionally trying season. He called the experience an “emotional roller coaster.”
He also expressed feeling some bittersweet emotions over the upcoming conclusion of the series, which will end after its seventh season.
“It’s very sad just because we have one more season left of filming, and that’ll be the completion of ‘The Chosen,’” he said. “My life has changed tremendously through it, and I’m so thankful that we’ve gotten to do this.”
