For the In Memoriam portion of Sunday night’s award ceremony, Post Malone joined several musicians in a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, who died this past July at the age of 76.

While performing the 1970 Black Sabbath classic “War Pigs” alongside artists including Slash, former Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, Post Malone was sporting a camouflaged Spanish Fork Fiesta Days Rodeo hat.

The singer made a surprise appearance at that rodeo last July, interacting with fans and signing autographs. Spanish Fork, located in Utah County, is roughly 50 miles from Post Malone’s home in Cottonwood Heights.

Members of Osbourne’s family, including his wife, Sharon, were visibly moved by Post Malone’s performance. As the song came to an end, the singer briefly removed his Spanish Fork hat to bow and thank the audience before walking off the stage.

Other artists honored during the In Memoriam segment included D’Angelo, Roberta Flack, Brian Wilson, Ace Frehley, Sly Stone and Bob Weir.

The morning after his performance, Post Malone announced the revival of his stadium tour with a Part 2. The tour, which started last spring at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City and features a co-headlining set from Jelly Roll, will conclude at that same venue on July 28, according to a news release shared with the Deseret News.

“Moving here to this amazing state was one of the best things I’ve done in my life, besides have a baby girl,” the singer told his cheering fans at Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre, per a video shared by Salt Lake-based country radio station The Bull on TikTok. “I moved to LA when I was a kid, and I was like, ‘Hey this is not kind of where I want to be.’ So I did a show here right on the Salt Flats, and I was like, ‘This place rocks.’ ... Like a week later we bought a house here. I gotta say, Utah is one of the most beautiful places on the planet, and I’m so grateful and so honored to be a resident here, ladies and gentlemen.”

The singer has previously called Cottonwood Heights “the most amazing place ever” and considers Utah an “oasis” away from Hollywood, helping to alleviate some of the stress that can stem from the celebrity life.

In a 2022 cover story for Billboard magazine, Post Malone said “there are very few distractions” in Utah and that living in the state helps him envision a life outside of music one day.

Over the years, he’s been active in his Utah community, including performing at the NBA All-Star Game in Salt Lake City, helping to establish a new salmon pink Raising Cane’s location in Midvale, donating a signed acoustic guitar to help raise money for the Utah Honor Flight Program and performing at a Primary Children’s Hospital gala this past October.
