Tom Holland is back for his seventh run as New York City’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Marvel Studios released the first trailer for the upcoming film Wednesday morning, just one day after a series of two-second teaser clips of the trailer sent fans into a frenzy online.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” marks Holland’s fourth solo film. Following the events of “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” where Peter Parker makes a personal sacrifice to save New York City and the multiverse from being ripped apart, the film follows the hero living his new reality, with new challenges.
The trailer features several familiar faces from the Marvel cinematic universe, including Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Jon Bernthal as the Punisher and Michael Mando’s Scorpion from “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
New additions to the cast include Sadie Sink, Tramell Tillman, Liza Colon-Zayas and Marvin Jones II, according to IMDb.
The “Spider-Man” franchise has historically been a juggernaut for Marvel.
Holland’s solo debut in 2017, “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” earned $880 million in the worldwide box office. The second installment, “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” in 2019 brought in $1.13 billion worldwide, while the 2021 feature ″Spider-Man: No Way Home” earned $1.9 billion in the global box office.
Director Destin Daniel Cretton is making his “Spider-Man” debut, with the previous Marvel “Spider-Man” films having been directed by Jon Watts.
Cretton is known for his work on “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” and “Just Mercy.” The screenplay is credited to Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers and Stan Lee.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” will release only in theaters July 31, 2026.
How are fans reacting?
Social media reactions to the trailer have been largely positive, though some viewers expressed mixed feelings.
“It only took 10 years but we might finally have a serious Tom Holland spider man film,” one fan posted. “His movies have been too childish compared to the Toby and Andrew’s movies.”
Another fan added, “I feel this isn’t the last time we’re gonna see Spider-Man Tom Holland.”
The trailer’s debut came just one day after Warner Bros. released a teaser for “Dune: Part Three,” which will be in theaters December 2026. The back-to-back trailer announcements gave some fans “whiplash.”
