SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced the location of the Bentonville Arkansas Temple on Thursday afternoon, just six months after it was announced by President Russell M. Nelson.
The first temple in Arkansas will be built on an 8.8-acre site with an existing meetinghouse located at 1101 McCollum Road, according to a news release. The announcement did not include a date for a groundbreaking ceremony.
President Nelson announced eight temples in October 2019. The church announced the locations of three of those temples in December — the McAllen Texas Temple, the Orem Utah Temple and the Taylorsville Utah Temple.
The Bentonville temple will be one story with 25,000 square feet and a center spire, the same as the McAllen temple.
The Orem and Taylorsville temples will be more than 70,000 square feet.
The church’s project leaders are working with Bentonville city officials on preliminary plans for the temple. The news release said they will begin filing public documents soon.
More than 31,000 Latter-day Saints worship in approximately 70 Arkansas congregations.
