The Roof Restaurant overlooking the Salt Lake Temple from the 10th floor of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building recently reopened after a “substantial renovation,” according to a news release on ChurchofJesusChrist.org.
The news release also included updates on the Salt Lake Temple’s ongoing renovation work.
What’s new at the reopened Roof Restaurant
The Roof Restaurant — originally opened in 1914, in what was then Hotel Utah — first shut doors in March 2020, and now joins other areas of the building reopened to the public earlier this year. These areas include the lobby and mezzanine levels of the building, as well as the Garden Restaurant found on the ground floor of the building.

Renovation work on the Roof Restaurant transformed the once-buffet-style restaurant into a sit-down, à la carte dining experience, “featuring a menu inspired by local flavors,” according to the news release.
Menu selections now include salads, wood-fired flatbreads, signature steaks and desserts using local honey. They also include Utah favorites, such as funeral potato bites and the Utah scone.
Interested parties and individuals can now make lunch and dinner reservations at the rooftop restaurant, which is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Salt Lake Temple renovation updates
Recent renovation work on the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has included installing new chandeliers in sealing rooms, and making progress on the temple’s entrance buildings and north sealing-wing addition.
Chandeliers
The new chandeliers installed in the temple’s north-addition sealing rooms were designed to blend with the Salt Lake Temple’s original 19th-century aesthetic.
Also reflecting this aesthetic are the original chandeliers that were recently restored and installed in the assembly room of the temple.

The north sealing-wing addition
This sealing-wing addition is nearly complete, with detailed stonework and the installation of new windows. The addition will help increase the temple’s capacity to host temple sealings by contributing to the temple’s 22 sealing rooms — 10 in the temple building, including the sealing wing, and 12 in the temple’s north addition.

The temple’s entrance buildings
Work on the temple’s north entrance buildings continues to move forward, with stone cladding, walkways and landscaping taking shape.
Finish work, including detailed trim and millwork, on the entrance buildings’ main lobby area is also underway.
As for the temple’s west entrance building, panels with the words “Holiness to the Lord” and “House of the Lord” inscribed were installed on the building’s east side. These inscriptions were engraved on the stone panels offsite, and the lettering’s gold gilding was applied after the panels were installed.
