It is highly probable that public schools will begin again in the fall, and students, faculty and school employees will be required to wear masks. This is the only way we can keep schools safe from people infecting others with COVID-19. Schools districts are ordering masks for incoming students, which I suppose will be free. Taxpayers will probably have to pay for the masks. Students will need to take personal responsibility for taking care of these masks and not losing them so they will not need to be replaced. They should be reminded at the end of the school day to keep their masks in their backpacks when they get home, and perhaps all masks should have the student’s name written on them.
Taking personal responsibility for masks, or providing their own, will save the school districts from having to spend money that needs to be used for other essential learning materials. We are in a crisis, but we do not need to have a financial crisis.
