My family and community in Moab and Salt Lake City celebrated the restoration of Bears Ears, Grand Staircase-Escalante, and Seamounts national monuments, that President Joe Biden enacted on Friday, Oct, 8. This was a much needed correction to the abuse of executive power that President Donald Trump wielded upon our state during his term.

The complaints of our congressional delegation, for me, are not based in truth, revealing their twisted sense of justice, respect to the tribes, the land and the future generations who will seek out these lands for mental, spiritual and physical healing.

Why should President Biden negotiate with a group of elected officials who gleefully gave Trump the pen to sign away our beloved, pristine, red rock, archeological heritage?

“Do as I say, not as I do,” seems to be their message. Now they’re infuriated because Biden did the right thing.

Climate science shows how important it is to act now, by protecting huge swaths of land and keeping carbon in the ground, if we are to avoid drastic drought, pollution and pestilence.
