Republican Clay Fuller will fill a Georgia congressional seat vacated by former Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene, according to a call made by The Associated Press on Tuesday evening.

Fuller, who was endorsed by President Donald Trump, was ahead of Democrat Shawn Harris, a farmer and former Army general, 56% to 44% with 78% of the vote counted.

Georgia’s 14th congressional district is considered one of the reddest in the state, and was won easily by Trump in 2024.

Trump’s endorsement helped Fuller, a former district attorney and officer in the Air National Guard, beat 15 other Republicans in the primary election. But he didn’t win enough of the vote to avoid a runoff with Harris.

Iran became a flashpoint in the race, according to The New York Times, with Fuller supporting the war and Harris opposing it.

“Our country is safer because of what President Trump has done regarding Iran,” Fuller said, according to the Times.

Fuller’s support for the war stands in sharp contrast to Greene’s opposition.

Greene stepped down from her seat in January, after publicly breaking from Trump. She has since become a regular critic of the president, especially on the Epstein Files and the Iran war, despite previously being one of his biggest supporters.

Fuller’s win will help Republicans in the House, who hold a slim 217-214 majority.
