I have never been a big fan of the statues of Karl Malone and John Stockton, outside EnergySolutions Arena. In the years since they were made, I've become used to them. But I remember at first thinking the one of Stockton looked like he was a 70-year-old version, playing in a living legends game.

But at least they're proportional, and they look like the correct bodies.

Compare that to the statue of Stan Musial at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. It has stood outside two different Cardinals stadiums for the last 42 years. But now it's coming under fire. Some in the Gateway City are calling for a re-do. They're saying the old statue just didn't look like "The Man."

Which gets me back to Stockton and Malone. I won't go so far as to say they are out of proportion and an eyesore (a "mutation" is what one St. Louis writer called the Musial statue), but the resemblance isn't all that close.

I know nothing about the technical aspects of recreating a person in bronze; I just know what Stockton looks like now at 48 — and he doesn't look nearly as old as his statue.

So I'll put it out there: Should the Stockton and Malone likenesses be redone?
