The Utah Utes continued their run of landing some of the top defensive prospects in the Beehive State on Thursday morning, as Juan Diego four-star defensive end Xavier Carlton announced his commitment to the program in a ceremony at the school.

After adding Corner Canyon’s Van Fillinger, Lone Peak’s Nate Ritchie and Bingham’s Sione Fotu on the first day of the early signing period Wednesday, the Utes will bring the 6-foot-7, 260-pound Carlton into their fold.

Carlton, the son of former Utah linebacker Demetrius Carlton, chose the Utes over multiple Pac-12 programs, most notably Washington, which made a late push for him in the recruiting process.

Born in Utah, Carlton grew up primarily in California before his family moved back to Utah for his senior year of high school. As a senior, Carlton tallied 91 tackles and eight sacks.
