SALT LAKE CITY — Andy Reid was happy to see the Miami Dolphins upset the New England Patriots on Sunday, and he let them know it.

“Hail to the Dolphins,” Reid, the former BYU player and grad assistant, told the media following his Kansas City Chiefs’ 31-21 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Dolphins win, combined with the Chiefs victory, locked up the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye for Kansas City in the AFC, while dropping the Patriots to the No. 3 seed.

The coach said he found out from the fans about Miami’s go-ahead score. The Dolphins scored a touchdown with 24 seconds left to rally for the 27-24 win.

“Fans were hollering and I figured something good was happening,” he said.

Reid, who has a 12-14 career playoff record, led the Chiefs to the playoffs for the fifth straight season and the sixth time in seven years. Kansas City will now wait for the divisional round for its next opponent, thanks to Miami.

Several Utah ties in the NFL made big plays Sunday.

First, Dolphins cornerback and former Ute DB Eric Rowe had the first pick-six of his career come against his former team and Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

Former BYU quarterback Taysom Hill scored his sixth receiving touchdown this season for New Orleans, on a 45-yard pass no less.

In the Chiefs’ win over the Chargers, two former Cougars both had interceptions. Los Angeles’ Michael Davis made his second career interception early in the third quarter, while Kansas City’s Daniel Sorensen wrapped up the win with a pick with just over a minute to play.
