SALT LAKE CITY — Utah State’s 20th head football coach, Chuck Shelton, passed away Thursday. 

Shelton, who was 84, coached the Aggies from 1986-91, leading the program to a 26-39-1 record, including 25-16-1 in Big West Conference play. He was named the Big West’s Co-Coach of the Year in 1991. 

Before his time at USU, Shelton was the head coach at Drake from 1977-85. Following his time in Logan, he spent four seasons as the head coach at Pacific and compiled a 81-127-1 record as a head coach.

Shelton was born on Aug. 16, 1935, in Rolla, Missouri.
